Juan Klaaste (1998 - )

Juan joined Spier Arts Academy as a Mosaic Apprentice in 2017. He consistently was at the top of his class and graduated cum laude in 2019.

Juan credit mosaic as a medium that has taught him patience, discipline and respect as an artisan. He particularly likes colour theory, to play with different kinds of values and hues to create a specific colour that is needed to create a beautiful mosaic.

The impact that mosaic has made in my life is significant. I look at everything with a different view and perspective because it is always good to break up your everyday problems into “pieces” and look it from a distance to see the full picture and then to solve it. It is the same like mosaic: you break material, then put it in place and end up with a mosaic that can be often be best appreciated from gaining perspective through looking at it from a distance. Every day I implement mosaic in my life.

Juan is planning to continue his career as a mosaic artisan and hopes to change at least one other person’s life through his skills and knowledge.
